2 months!

Emily is two months old! She's definitely the center of our universe now; everything revolves around her, and we love it! Here are a few things that we learned and enjoyed about Emily this month:

  • She is a lot more alert and aware of her surroundings.
  • She always has messy poops in her I heart Daddy onesie (pictured above) but never in any other outfit.
  • She loves to smile at her toys that smile at her. The current favorite is her monkey mirror in the car.
  • She likes the spanish music station and will calm down to listen to it.
  • She has discovered her hands and they are always in her mouth if she isn't staring at them.
  • Thanks to the Sleep sheep and Swaddle Me blanket she has figured out her nights and days and sleeps longer stretches at night.
  • She survived her first big Jomaa family gathering for the Eid.
  • She's just like Fouad when she sleeps - she always has one foot sticking out of the blanket.
  • She's bene rolling over and has learned to hold a rattle.
  • She loves her baths and enjoys them as part of her nighttime routine.
  • She likes swing and bouncer - she hated both last month.
  • She can keep herself entertained in her crib - we caught her wide awake one morning when she let us sleep in and she enjoyed smiling and watching the fan in her room.
  • If she is fussy the sound of the hair dryer never fails to calm her down.
  • She drank from her first bottle this month.
  • She had her first babysitters - Aunt Nadine and Miss Alli - while Fouad and I went to the first GSU football game.
  • Fouad and I have been a little more relaxed - we don't panic when she's fussing, and we take her out so much more!

A surprise from Emily...

Here's a video of Emily smiling at the smiley face magnet on the fridge. One of her new things is to smile at any toy, picture, or person that is smiling at her. Please excuse the crazy hair - she just woke up from a nap. It gets a little interesting around the 45 second mark...

1 Month!

Emily has been with us for a month, and it has flown by! Here are a few that we loved learning about our little girl this month:
  • She gets the hiccups often, just like she did when I was pregnant.
  • She's a night owl!
  • She loves to be swaddled.
  • She's not good at burping, but she's a good tooter! She's louder than daddy at times!
  • She happiest when she's being held, rocked, bounced, or in her swing.
  • Her biggest fan is Charlie the dog, followed closely by mom and dad.
  • She talks (or rather grunts) a LOT in her sleep. She's been keeping us up!
  • She loves to stretch after a long nap.
  • She loves things that spin. Her current favorites are the ceiling fan and the mobile.

Hiccups

Pretty much the cutest thing ever...Emily has the hiccups!

My first tub bath. Not too sure I like this...

I do like cuddling with mom after my baths!

My first smile! Smiling at my mobile :-)

I love this guy!

My first bottle...I'm going to have to get used to this...

Emily is here!

It was a long journey, but she's finally here! We arrived at the hospital at 6 pm on Saturday to start the induction process. There wasn't much going on on Saturday evening, I was just given a drug to try and get me to dilate. Sunday morning arrived, and nothing had progressed, so we started the pitocin to get contractions going. It was a looooong day of labor, and luckily I had Fouad by my side. Around 4 pm we were told there was still no progress, and that I would have to go through another round of pitocin on Monday if nothing progressed by 5 pm. I was exhausted by that point, and so disappointed to hear that we hadn't progressed at all. The pain was already unbearable, and I wasn't able to get the epidural without any progress. Around 5 pm, our doctor checked and I had dilated 5 cm! We were on our way to having our little girl here! I was in tears I was so happy! They gave me the epidural and ramped up the pitocin, and after a few more hours of labor and an hour an a half of pushing, Emily Laila Jomaa finally decided to grace us with her presence on Sunday, July 18th at 10:30 pm. Fouad was so excited when she arrived - running to grab the camera and get her first pictures. He counted fingers and toes and announced all of her stats to me across the room. I will never forget how excited he was!

Enjoy the first pictures below of our baby girl!
